David & Goliat is a new publisher, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We want to combine making great books with the production of electronic publications such as eBooks and apps. Because children today are growing up without knowing the difference between new and traditional media. And because kids will always love a good story, now and in the future. These concepts are ready for co-edition. If you are interested to see more of our plans, please do not hesitate to contact us: Dit e-mailadres is beschermd tegen spambots. U heeft JavaScript nodig om het te kunnen zien. .

We will visit Bologna 2012. See you there!

Jonas and the Whale

jonas_cover It took nearly forty years for the pictures of this book to be discovered, hidden away safely in the archives of artist Sylvia Oudkerk from Amsterdam. She made these fine ink drawings during a long voyage, sailing Europe’s coastlines between 1973 and 1975. They were meant to be a magical journal for her three-year old son. Now the son has grown and the drawings have turned into a modern-day fairytale about a boy on a boat. Having no friends to play with, the boy turns to his animal friends for adventure.

The design of this modern day fairy tale is made so that the vintage ink drawings are accompanied by subtle colours to make it suitable for a children’s book. The book has a narrated movie on Youtube. 3+.

Fairytales in photographs

joppe01_500 As one of Holland’s most famous portrait photographer, Tessa Posthuma de Boer turned her art into this beautiful book of fairytales. The book contains four stories, which are sometimes absurd, adventurous and full of melancholy. They take readers on an imaginative adventure through a series of breathtaking and dreamlike photographs.

The four stories are depicted in four different seasons, and feature an only child, waking up in an up side down world. A pair of twins who seem to have lost each other. A young boy traveller, stumbling up on the hospitality of triplets. And an old women guarding a forest full of secrets. 3+.
